Antler Ring by IkaikaDesign Antler Ring by IkaikaDesign
My first ever custom antler ring! It took about two hours to carve completely and proved to be more fun than previously thought.

In case you are wondering what has been inscribed across the front its "Rothfuss". I did this ring for one of my favorite authors and I plan to send it to one this week.

Oho, am I correct in assuming you're talking about Patrick Rothfuss, the author of the Kingkiller Chronicles? 8D
I love those books and I'm excited for the new one. Very clever to make a ring of bone for him. Hahahaha...

You are correct! Pat Rothfuss is my hero. I got to meet him a year ago at a book signing which prompted this ring carving. Don't know when his next book is coming out, but I can't wait until it does! =D

I used a variety of different burs but mostly the smallest I could find. I can't honestly name them but the smaller the better. I first cut the end off of an antler then cut it again until I got the desired width for the ring. Then I used a vice clamp to stabilize the bone sliver and took a drill bit to it. I ended up using the biggest drill bit I could find in order to punch an even hole through the center of the bone piece. Then it was sand, sand, sand, sand, until I got the desired circumference and depth. After that I sketched out the design I wanted to carve and went to town. It took a lot of clean up work to get the letter right but after a little hand sanding with different grade sandpaper and some filing I got this little guy finished. I hope that help =)
